Camp Description

This summer, have some fun and excitement in learning how to paint with watercolor. Experience traditional watercolor techniques that professional watercolor artists use.

Watercolor techniques include method of layering transparent washes on paper, building color gradation, understanding contrast, tones and values. Depending on the nature of the projects, students may get to create special effects by masking, sponging, scraping, spraying, glazing, etc. And after all the fun, students also learn how to take care of their own tools. Our watercolor classes are not only about learning techniques, they are also about seeing and thinking. Students will learn to see what is ordinary, extraordinary, and also to think creatively.

At the beginning of each project, students will receive directions on how to work on their pencil outlines. Instructor will then work with each student on their layout and composition. After completing the outlines, instructor will give step-by-step painting demonstrations as a group and review techniques with individual student. As all students learn and progress at their own pace, it is important that each watercolor class shall review techniques that the students have or have not learned. If students cannot complete their project in one lesson, they may continue the same project in their next lesson. Students will work from color copies of watercolor paintings, book illustrations, photographs or still-life displayed objects.

See the following chart for Theme and Subject. Painting subjects will be chosen base on students’ interest, age and skill level, please note that listed “Subjects” may not be covered entirely. Also, we do not repeat the same project for returned students.
